Defenders of the Omniverse strategy guide

Defenders of the Omniverse can be a pretty challenging game, but it’s also tons of fun and certainly worth playing a few rounds. I’ve put in some time, and here’s what I’ve learned — to give you a nice head start in the game.

The different heroes have different strengths and weaknesses, so it’s really up to you and your play style on which works best for you. However, I have my favorites, and the reasons why follows.

Talyn, the Starboy is the only hero that’s taken me all the way to the final boss. His move speed makes him excellent at avoiding enemy attacks and therein lies his strength. He also has a decent amount of health but poor damage output and range, so fights can last longer with him.

Jake Thorne is another favorite. He has good damage output, but less mobility than Talyn. However, if you get lucky with the rolls, Jake can be just as fast and put out way more damage. He can also defeat enemies from across the map with his awesome range, making him a very solid choice.

And yes, rolls. This is one of those RNG games where bad RNG can kill your run, no matter what you do.

Peru’Gino is alright, but his low health and slow stamina regeneration proves a bit of a challenge for me, even though he has extra dash slots. I still prefer Talyn and Jake.

Sasha is not even worth mentioning in my humble opinion. She’s a close-range warrior with high strength and health, but a supreme lack of range and mobility makes her a very difficult hero to play.

Personally, I think Talyn is S-tier, and none of the others even come close.

How best to play Defenders of the Omniverse

Given the above statement, you’ll want to start off with Jake. He’ll get you past the first boss, at which point you’ll unlock Talyn, the best hero.

You’ll notice a mini map on the bottom-right of your screen. Use it a lot — it shows the location of chests and mini bosses while fighting. You’ll want to collect blue and brown (yellow?) chests as soon as they spawn.

The blue chests give you currency that you can use in the shop, while the brown chests give you Omni-credits that can be used to power up all of your heroes and unlock special perks.

Green chests drop a variety of things, but most commonly health restoration items, so go after them if you need some healing.

Other than that, just play the game and have fun. Experiment with the passives, weapons, and heroes to see what you like best.

Next, I’ll cover the priorities when leveling up your hero.

I always prioritize damage and cooldowns, and it’s as simple as that. It’s all conditional, of course. If you’re playing a hero with less mobility, you may want to invest in movement speed. It comes in handy when you’re running from about a hundred enemies.

If you’re trying to reach the end, you might want to balance your damage output with some damage reduction, so getting the damage reducing armor is good.

My strategy, however, is to always go for damage. The more enemies you can kill in a shorter amount of time, the better you’ll have it.

Which additional weapons are best?

The first time I took the slime grenades, I thought they were terrible. Turns out they’re my favorite weapon now, great at decimating rooms full of enemies. There are a variety of combinations you can test out, but again, it’s conditional.

On Jake I like to get the Alpha and Omega card sets, plus additional close-range damage, such as the Nano Spiders. This can help a lot in giving him some close-range stopping power while you target other enemies at long range.

On Taryn, I like to get room-clearing items. The Magma Hammers, Slime Grenades, and Mushroom Bombs are my favorites. Apart from that, you can get anything else and test it out. I usually just get whatever’s best after I secure those.

In my last run, I got the Plasma gun, which was pretty good.

It all depends, again, on your play style. Try out the different weapons and see which you like best.

Why the Slime Grenades are so effective

To effectively use the Slime Grenades, I usually circle the battlefield, funneling most enemies into the central part (dash in between enemies to get them to bunch up). All you do then is aim for the center of the mass and keep those slime grenades going.

They’re very effective at clearing out all the additional enemies, especially once you’ve upgraded the damage output more.

There’s not a whole lot more to say on strategy. If you’ve played a bullet hell game before, you’ll soon get the hang of this one. It’s a really decent entry into the market!
