Cyclizar, new items and moves revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Terastal phenomenon further explained

The Pokémon Company shared new details about Scarlet and Violet during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Pokémon World Championships on Sunday. In a competitive play trailer, the company revealed new items, new moves and a brand new Pokémon — Cyclizar.

Cyclizar is a Dragon/Normal-type Pokémon with a wheel attached to its chest. While unconfirmed, it looks like it could be a pre-evolution of the box legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon. Both Koraidon and Miraidon have wheels on their chests, and leaks have suggested that they are both Dragon-types.

Cyclizar will also have a brand new move called Shed Tail. By sacrificing half of its health, Shed Tail allows the user to instantly switch out to another Pokémon and grant the incoming Pokémon a free substitute.

New competitive attributes revealed with Cyclizar for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The new competitive play trailer shed more light on the Terastal phenomenon. When a Pokémon Terastallizes, their Tera type overrides their regular type when it comes to calculating resistances, immunities and weaknesses on the defensive side.

In addition, a new Normal-type move called Tera Blast becomes the same type as the user’s Tera type whenever they are Terastallized. Furthermore, this move can be either physical or special, depending on whether the user has higher Attack or Special Attack.

The Pokémon Company also unveiled three new held items on Sunday. The Mirror Herb is a single-use item that allows the holder to copy their opponent’s stat changes. Coming up next, the Covert Cloak makes the holder immune to the secondary effects of attacks. Lastly, the Loaded Dice increase the odds of a multi-hit move hitting as many times as possible.

Alongside Cyclizar and the new competitive attributes for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the closing ceremony also included new information about the trading card game. In addition, The Pokémon Company confirmed that the World Championships will be in Yokohama next year. This will mark the first time Worlds will take place in Japan.
