Does Last Epoch support your controller?

Last Epoch version 1.0 has finally been released and you can finally hop into the full experience of the new ARPG. Right now, the game is only available on PC via Steam, but that doesn’t mean other systems won’t get to experience it in the future. However, if you’re not used to playing games on PC but want to hop into Last Epoch, you might be wondering if it’s possible to use a controller.

Traditionally, ARPGs have been primarily released for PC, meaning a mouse and keyboard is the intended way to play them. Of course, games like Diablo have bucked this trend in recent years, with Diablo 4 arguably being better when played on a controller. Below, you can see whether or not Last Epoch supports controllers or if you’re stuck with a keyboard and mouse.

So, there’s good news and bad news when it comes to using a controller in Last Epoch. The bad news is that when you view the game’s Steam page, it says that there’s only partial support for some types of controllers. This means the controller you use to play other games on Steam might not be supported by Last Epoch. It also means you’ll have limited support for any controller that does work with the game.

Now, the good news is that I have yet to find a controller that is not supported by Last Epoch. I have used an Xbox, PS4 + PS5, and a PC-specific controller to play the 1.0 version of Last Epoch over the past week, and all of them have worked. Of course, they still have limited support in-game, so you aren’t able to fully customize your keybinds or sensitivities in the game itself. If you have third-party software for your controller, you can freely customize your device there.

When I plug in my preferred controller to play Last Epoch, it uses every available button and I’m even able to use a cursor in-game with the right joystick. The left joystick is reserved for actual movement while the face buttons, shoulders, and triggers, all have specific functions as well. Overall, I quite enjoy Last Epoch when using a controller, so feel free to plug yours in and see whether you prefer it over a keyboard and mouse.
