The release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been moved up one month for PC users. This means that anyone planning to play on PC will need to get their copy of the game situated. While traditional PC players won’t have much to worry about, those on Steam Deck might have some questions surrounding the compatibility of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the handheld device.
If you own a Steam Deck, then you know how difficult it can be to get some modern titles running. While most games are at least playable on the handheld PC, others have true difficulty booting up. As such, users who are looking forward to the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 need to know if they’re able to play on Steam Deck or if they need to make other arrangements.
Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam Deck
Fortunately for anyone who owns Valve’s tiny PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 is considered as “playable” on Steam Deck. This comes straight from Valve, who put games into certain categories depending on their compatibility with the handheld. The “playable” category falls short of the “Verified” category, but this doesn’t mean that Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t fully capable of running well on the device.
The game is primarily not under the “Verified” umbrella because of its use of a pre-game launcher as well as no options for Steam Deck controller icons on screen. However, it’s possible that developer Larian Studios could solve these issues for Steam Deck users and achieve the “Verified” status.

Regardless of that, however, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be fully playable on the handheld. Players might have to drop their in-game settings and resolution to lower than what they’re used to, but this will ensure the game runs at a smooth FPS. You can see exactly how Baldur’s Gate 3 runs on any PC when it launches on Aug. 3.
