In all the kerfuffle of the stage two playoffs of the Overwatch League, one big event that people missed was the disbanding of a Contenders team. NRG Esports were the parent company that purchased the San Francisco slot in the league, growing it into the Shock team we know today. The Florida Mayhem noticed this disbanding.
They also developed a Contenders team under the NRG name, developing a bunch of players known nowadays, including Seong-won “Swon” Yoon, Riley “Fahzix” Taylor, and stage two champion Dong-jun “Rascal” Kim. Unfortunately, they disbanded on May 8, 2019, leaving an open fate for their players and staff. But other teams are starting to look into these players, and this is the first pickup from this defunct roster.

The Florida Mayhem have acquired support player Seong-ju “Byrem” Lee from the NRG Esports roster.
Expanding the Korean roster
With the Florida Mayhem, they made an executive decision to switch to a full Korean one earlier this year. One of the major moves that accentuated this move was the acquisition of Pan-seung “Fate” Koo from the Valiant. A new leader mixed with an established main tank, this signing has promise for the Mayhem.
We’re very excited to add Fate’s veteran leadership and star talent to the Mayhem. We can’t wait to watch him #BringTheMayhem for the second half of this season and in the future.
Give him a warm welcome and drop him a follow @Fate_ow!

Byrem seems to be adding onto this experienced roster, a Korean player who has played in America for at least two years under NRG. While the support line of Florida has been decent, depth is always a nice addition. Byrem will add that to this roster, looking to improve in the standings with these new signings. The only risk with this Florida roster now is whether these changes will make enough of an impact quickly. Half of this season is already gone, and Florida is not in a great position. We’ll have to see whether these two signings of Fate and Byrem will be enough to make this Florida roster more competitive.
