Boston versus New York causes social media frenzy at Kickoff Classic

Boston Breach and New York Subliners had fans talking on Twitter

The long-awaited matchup between the New York Subliners and the Boston Breach did not disappoint as the two teams stepped into the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the Call of Duty League Kickoff Classic. Despite not previously playing against each other in Vanguard before, both teams were coming into the year with a turf-war rivalry.

As the most highly-anticipated matchup of the first day of the Kickoff Classic, the games themselves did not disappoint. Neither did the social media interaction as fans and players went wild over what the teams were doing on the server. From Ian “Crimsix” Porter trying on a submarine gun to James “Clayster” Eubanks clutching a one versus two with a sniper rifle, the internet was eating up the action.

Crimsix embraces the meme

It has been over six months since Crimsix had last appeared in Arlington at the Esports Stadium under the Dallas Empire. In his walkout six months ago he made a big show with a cowboy hat and meme-able pose. To keep the meme alive, Crimsix posted the same way on stage for the Kickoff Classic and gave fans more images to make memes of.

“THICC6 has entered the building,” said the Call of Duty League Twitter account.

Get snipers out of here

Snipers were not used in competition due to a gentleman’s agreement and then reinstated shortly after due to mixed opinions from the pros and scenes. However, the teams may rethink their decision for bringing them back after seeing what Clayster was able to do with one.

In an intense one versus two situation on Tuscan Search and Destroy in the mode’s first appearance at the Kickoff Classic, Boston had the upper hand against Clayster who only had a sniper. After an aggressive challenge from Thomas “TJHaLy” Haley, Clayster was able to reposition to kill rookie Kenyan “Capsidal” Sutton to win the round.

“Thank you for un-GAing snipers,” tweeted the New York Subliners.

“The GA chat right now,” said CDLIntel on Twitter.

“Holy S*** Clayster YES,” said Call of Duty League caster Miles Ross on Twitter.

Capsidal shows what he’s capable of

In the most-hyped Hardpoint map of the Kickoff Classic so far, the Boston Breach’s rookie Capsidal showcased that he could play with the best of the best. He went on an eight-kill streak which brought the entire Arlington stadium to its feet. Not only did he catch the attention of the fans in the stadium, but the fans on Twitter as well.

“The young UNIT Capsidal,” tweeted the Boston Breach. “Know his name, fear it.”

“CAPS POV JUST BROKE MY NECK JESUS,” said Los Angeles Thieves player Sam “Octane” Larew.

“CAP JUST GOT HIS F*** ON NO CAP,” tweeted former Call of Duty pro Adam “GODRX” Brown.
