While we got a giant news dump of information regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in the past week, there likely won’t be any new details about the game for at least a few weeks. However, that didn’t stop Amazon from leaking that the MWII open beta could take place on Aug. 15.
Activision likes to wait a brief time after the initial reveal for a Call of Duty title before releasing any new information. More specifically, fans are still awaiting additional news about MWII multiplayer and Warzone 2.0. Those experiences likely won’t be officially talked about until later in the summer.
However, as confirmed by Activision, Modern Warfare II multiplayer will feature an open beta exactly like in years past. While they confirmed the beta and said that it arrives on PlayStation first, no other details were provided. Activision themselves hasn’t said anything but a new Amazon listing for MWII did let fans see a possible date for the beta.
Modern Warfare II beta date confirmed?
The leak from Amazon was caught by Twitter user @impulsegrenades earlier this week. According to the listing for MWII on Amazon, open beta codes “will be sent out on August 15th.” This snippet is found directly on the page under the “Beta Code Offer Qualifier” bullet.

Since this tweet went live, Amazon has changed the listing to say “Beta code delivered via email in August.” Still, that does give us a timeframe as to when the beta could release. According to content creators within the community, no retailer knows the date of the Modern Warfare II beta. However, it seems strange Amazon would mention August as the month for the beta twice on the same listing.
At this time, though, there’s still no official date for the beta. August 15 is the closest thing we have to a possible date currently. That falls on a Monday and traditionally, the COD betas begin towards the middle-end of the week to give players the full weekend to play. Amazon did say August 15 was when the codes would be sent out, though. Perhaps the codes will be sent out on August 15 and then the beta will actually begin a couple of days later.
We should hear more official news regarding MWII multiplayer and the beta later in the summer.
