The new season has introduced somethings called a Super Anomaly to the overworld. These Super Anomalies grant monsters different traits and have different counters. This means we’ll be able to tailor our builds to be good specifically on the server we choose.
If you want to experiment with new builds or use your current builds, you’ll need to take a look at the Super Anomalies before you enter a server. Let’s took a look at what there is, and which counters will be good.
Super Anomaly – Void
This anomaly gives affected Deviants a shield that grants immunity to most damage effects. If that doesn’t sound scary, you may need to go see someone! This terrifying buff to some deviants we’ll encounter can be mitigated by dealing Unstable Bomber or Power Surge damage.
We’ll also see a new cradle override called Anti-Void, which can prove useful.
Super Anomaly – Balance
Deviants affected by Balance will recover HP over time after taking damage. Maybe my Fast Gunner build will be able to outpace the HP recovery — I don’t know yet. It’s probably way better to use the counters, which is Burn or Frost Vortex damage.
There’s also a new cradle override called Anti-Balance.
Super Anomaly – Phase
Deviants that have the Phase ability enjoy high damage reduction from most types of damage. I’m not sure if you remember, but in the beginning some of these Gluttons take quite a while to kill. Imagine that same fight but you’re only doing a fraction of the damage. Scary stuff.
The counters here are Shrapnel (Finally, my Shrapnel Build comes in handy!) and Fortress Warfare damage. There’s also the new cradle override called Anti-Phase.
Super Anomaly – Coherence
The final type of Deviant we’ll see on the new servers are Coherence Deviants. These guys carry a Coherence device, and while it’s intact, they’re immune to damage. Sounds like fun, right?
The counters here are, of course, the Anti-Coherence cradle override, but then also Bounce damage and damage while in the Fast Gunner state. Here’s where that fast gunner build will really shine.
How does all of this work?
You’ll have two different sets of these in each server. In a nutshell, either weapon damage builds or elemental damage builds will be effective. The two combinations I’ve seen in new servers are:
- Void & Balance
- Phase & Coherence
It doesn’t seem as though there are different combinations of these — it’s either one or the other. So take weapon damage builds along, or take elemental damage builds along.
Me? I’ve gone for an elemental server, since I only have weapon damage builds. Why? So that I can bring you more awesome build guides, of course! So keep a look out for those, and I’ll see you on the new servers.
There is one more thing. New servers mean new rewards. Let’s take a quick look at those.
Pay Attention to the Unlocks
In the Deviant Invasion tab (highlighted by the arrow above), you can scroll down to see which blueprints are on offer in the new seasons. The Void & Balance servers have the Jaws and the Shaman Vulture top available in the Wish Machine — crucial elements for building an Unstable Bomber build.
There are also new calibration blueprints on offer, with the Frugal style being available on this server variation. It’s good for pistols and snipers, apparently. We’ll see.
The Phase & Coherence servers will have the Oasis Mask and the MG4 Predator, crucial elements of the Fast Gunner build. There’s also a Boost style calibration blueprint to be found, and this can be obtained by the weapons dropped from super anomaly enemies.
This calibration is good for pistols and shotguns, increasing keyword trigger chances by reloading. Sounds like this could be useful for that Doombringer.
And that’s essentially all you need to know about the new server’s Super Anomalies. Good luck out there!
I’ve encountered a few of these anomalies in the wild — turns out they are Morphic Crates and they’re pretty tough. Here’s a guide to how to defeat the new Morphic Crates in Once Human.
