The announcement by 76ers GC follows eight other teams in the NBA 2K League to pick protected players. A full list of the other franchises to choose the two or three players to keep is below.

Protected players are current members of an NBA 2K League team that were specially selected by the team. As protected players, these individuals cannot be taken in September’s expansion draft by Hornets Venom GT (or any other expansion franchise). The deadline for the remaining 12 teams to protect players is Monday, Sept 2. For a list of rules regarding protected players and transactions, view the league’s official release.

The Philadelphia squad had big aspirations for 2019. In the preseason, 76ers GC was projected to be a top team in the league. They started off the year by winning the Tip-Off Tournament and the first bragging rights of 2019. In the regular season, 76ers GC lived up to the hype by finishing 11-5. Philadelphia earned the third seed in the playoffs and breezed through the bracket until the final. The ultimate dream for 76ers GC was cut short as the team lost in the NBA 2K League final to T-Wolves Gaming.

White was a star in the league’s inaugural season in 2018 and did not disappoint in 2019. The point guard averaged a double-double on the year with team-highs of 20.0 points and 11.1 assists. White’s performances throughout the season landed him on the All-NBA 2K League Second Team.

Bernstein led the 76ers GC team down low at center. Just four rebounds away from joining White in the double-double club, Bernstein averaged 11.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The center was top ten in the league for shooting percentage at 69.6%.

Lafanette was the only player to make both the All-Rookie Team and All-Defensive Team in 2019. The forward led the team in steals per game with 3.0 and ranked in the top five for the league. Lafanette added 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks to give 76ers GC the strong presence down low.

With 76ers GC protecting those three players, Manuel “Newdini33” Newman II, Rashann “ZDS” Petty, and Sean “oCASSIUS” Clayton all enter the expansion draft player pool.
