Though he was the first seed at the tournament, 2saint dropped into the losers bracket fairly early. He dropped a set to Cory “SypherPhoenix” Hong in Winners Quarters. 2saint advanced into top 8 on losers side by defeating Leighton “BIGKID” Ivy.

2saint won his next set fairly easily, beating Kacey “Warmmer” Hicks 3-1. From there, 2saint began an incredibly dominant run to 1st place where he did not drop another game. This run included 3-0 victories over Hugo “HugS” Gonzalez, Nico “Ryobeat” Rodriguez, and SypherPhoenix. He also scored a 6-0 victory over Rishi Malhotra between both sets of Grand Finals.

SypherPhoenix had a surprising run to 3rd place in Defend the North 2019 Melee Singles. He scored victories over BIGKID, 2saint, and Tim “M. Peacecraft” Tilley. M. Peacecraft himself had a respectable run to Winners Semis at this event. He was able to upset Ryan “Ryan_K” Kennedy and Warmmer.

Defend the North Melee champion 2saint’s year so far

2saint’s dominant victory in Defend the North Melee Singles marks one of his best regional performances in recent history. He did have a respectable regional performance at the very beginning of the season, however. 2saint placed 7th at NYXL Pop-Up! in December 2018. There, he defeated David “Kalvar” Coyne and Panayiotis “Panos” Dimopoulos.

Along with these, 2saint can boast solid national results throughout the first half of 2019. He started the year with an impressive 13th place finish at GENESIS 6. At GENESIS, 2saint won sets over Ethan “Snowy” Brun, Harrison “HTwa” Turner, Tyler “Sharkz” Bass, and Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami.

2saint’s other placings at majors included 17th at Pound 2019 and 25th at Smash’N’Splash 5. This Defend the North Melee champion also boasts wins over players like Kevin “PewPewU” Toy, Weston “Westballz” Dennis, Anthony “Slox” Detres, Drew “Drephen” Scoles, and Michael “King Momo” Morales.
