Zain wins Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Smash Summit 10 Online

Zain Naghmi won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Smash Summit 10 Online on November 23. This victory continued his dominant streak of 1st place finishes. Zain has not lost a tournament or even dropped a set since the first week of the Slippi Champions League.

Zain confidently won his pool, dropping only two games in the process. He beat Zaid “Spark” Ali 3 – 0, Johnny “S2J” Kim 3 – 1, Jason “Gahtzu” Diehl 3 – 0, and Steven “FatGoku” Callopy 3 – 0. Then in the main bracket, Zain defeated Avery “Ginger” Wilson 3 – 0, securing a spot in Winners Semis.

Zain kicked off top 8 with a 3 – 1 win over Cody “iBDW” Schwab. In Winners’ Finals, he secured another 3 – 1 victory against Joseph “Mang0” Marquez. Zain faced Mang0 once again in Grand Finals. Although Mang0 pushed him to game five, Zain still defeated Mang0 to claim 1st place at Smash Summit 10 Online.

Notably, Mang0 had the best performance in pools of any player at Smash Summit 10 Online. He swept his pool without dropping a game. In the process, he defeated Justin “Plup” McGrath, Ginger, Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni, and Sasha “Magi” Sullivan. Then in top 16, Mang0 beat S2J 3 – 0, Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett 3 – 1, and then iBDW 3 – 2 en route to 2nd place.

In pools, iBDW scored impressive wins over Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson, DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel, and Joey “Lucky” Aldama. However, he faced an upset by Wizzrobe, and thus entered the final bracket with a slightly lower seed. This setback was not too much for iBDW to overcome, as he dominantly beat Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma in Winners Quarters. He also beat Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby and won his runback against Wizzrobe before finishing in 3rd place.

Wizzrobe’s run to 4th place at Smash Summit 10 Online began with a commanding performance in pools. He beat iBDW 3 – 1, Axe 3 – 1, Shroomed 3 – 0, and Lucky 3 – 0. Wizzrobe kept up the pace in top 16, defeating n0ne 3 – 1 and Ginger 3 – 2.

Other results from Smash Summit 10 Online

Ginger placed 5th at Smash Summit 10 Online, securing several impressive wins in the process. He finished second in his pool, losing only to Mang0 while winning sets against Plup, SFAT, and Magi. After dropping a set to Zain, Ginger earned close victories over Lucky and Hungrybox before narrowly losing to Wizzrobe.

Hungrybox’s invitation to Summit was a bit controversial, considering his lackluster performances recently. However, he showed noticeable improvement, finishing in 7th place at this event. Along the way, Hungrybox defeated n0ne, Griffin “Captain Faceroll” Williams, Kevin “PewPewU” Toy, Miles “Soonsay” Foster, and Spark.

All of the players who qualified at Rollback Rumble defied expectations to advance into top 16. Magi placed 13th, with wins over Plup and SFAT. Meanwhile, both Soonsay and Lucky placed 9th. Soonsay defeated Captain Faceroll and Axe, while Lucky beat Axe, Shroomed, and Captain Faceroll.
