Zain Naghmi won Super Smash Bros. Melee Division 1 Singles at Slippi Champions League Week 4 on October 31. As a result, he earned the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Smash Summit 10 Online. Notably, Zain won three of the League’s four weeks.

Zain chose Joseph “Mang0” Marquez as his first opponent of this event, despite his loss to Mang0 during Week 1.  In fact, Mang0 is the only player to take a set from Zain’s Marth at an online tournament this year. However, the decision worked in Zain’s favor, as he defeated Mang0 3-1.

Afterward, Zain faced a series of tough match-ups, as he fought a Sheik main in both Semifinals and Finals. Nevertheless, he overcame his opponents convincingly. Zain concluded Slippi Champions League Week 4 by beating Justin “Plup” McGrath 3-1 and Zaid “Spark” Ali 3-0.

Considering his dominance throughout the entire League, Zain has established himself as the best player in North America. He boasts winning records against every person he has played in online tournaments (disregarding sets where he played Roy). Because of this, Zain will be the person to beat going into Smash Summit 10 Online.

The rest of Division 1

Spark climbed into Division 1 for the first time at the end of last week. He made a strong debut, finishing in 2nd place at Slippi Champions League Week 4. Spark beat Cody “iBDW” Schwab 3-2 and Griffin “Captain Faceroll” Williams 3-1.

Plup advanced into Division 1’s top 4 for the first time this week, defeating Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby 3-2 in Quarterfinals. Captain Faceroll, another Sheik main, rounded out this week’s top 4. He scored a 3-2 win over Johnny “S2J” Kim in Quarterfinals.

Other results from Slippi Champions League Week 4

During every prior week, iBDW secured a spot in top 4 of Division 1. However, iBDW underperformed at Slippi Champions League Week 4. After dropping a set to Spark, he lost 1-3 to Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett in Division 1 Relegation. As a result, iBDW fell out of Division 1 for the first time.

Despite being a Division 2 mainstay for most of the League, Dawud “Aklo” Rahman failed to qualify for Smash Summit 10 Online. Steven “FatGoku” Callopy beat Aklo 3-0 in Division 2 Relegation to knock him out of the League.

Conversely, DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel flipped the script from previous weeks at Slippi Champions League Week 4. Not only did Shroomed win a game in Division 2 Relegation for the first time, but he also won a whole set. Shroomed convincingly defeated Joseph “Azel” Resplandor 3-0.
