Will you still be able to play Warzone after Warzone 2 releases?

The current version of Warzone isn't technically going anywhere

In just under two months’ time, the current version of Call of Duty: Warzone will be replaced for the first time in its history. Activision and Infinity Ward are set to introduce Warzone 2, a new take on the battle royale that’s continued to drive the Call of Duty series in the modern age. We’ve heard and seen a plethora of details surrounding Warzone 2, including some changes that might already be in the works based on community feedback. However, some fans are more curious about what will happen to the current version of Warzone.

With the controversies floating around the next iteration of Warzone, some players have voiced their desire to remain on the current version. Warzone 2 was shown off at Call of Duty Next and featured many undesirable changes, such as a new looting UI and the removal of classic loadouts. While those new features might be getting reverted, players still want a backup plan in case Warzone 2 doesn’t meet expectations.

Luckily, the current Warzone will remain playable even after Warzone 2 is released on Nov. 16. Activision at least confirmed this much, but not much else has been revealed about the plans for Warzone. It’s rumored that Warzone will be renamed “Warzone Caldera,” which would further distinguish it from Warzone 2.

Speaking of Caldera, it’s also rumored that both Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep will be removed from the current Warzone after Warzone 2 arrives. This is likely a strategic decision on Activision’s part to entice fans to play the new version of Warzone rather than stay on the old one. However, that has not been confirmed yet.

Finally, it does look like the current Warzone will continue to receive updates even after the new Warzone is released. These updates will not be in the form of a full-fledged season, however, as it’s been confirmed that Season 6 is not coming. It remains unclear whether or not any new content will arrive in Warzone, but Raven Software will at least deliver quality of life updates to ensure the game remains playable.

Other than that, we don’t know anything else regarding the future of Warzone. Warzone 2 is the new focal point for Activision, so a majority of the publisher’s attention will be on that game. However, any player that wants to go back and experience the current Warzone, they will be free to do so.
