Who is the best Agent to use in the Valorant Closed Beta?

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The general population is mere hours away from finally getting its hands on Valorant, Riot Games’ new FPS title. While not everyone will get a chance at first, it seems likely that anyone who wants to play the Closed Beta will be able to have access. However, some players might not know what to do upon gaining admission into Valorant. There are a plethora of different mechanics you need to familiarize yourself with, but perhaps the most important is the Agents list. These characters are all unique, but only a few can be considered the best.

Which Agents should you pick in Valorant?

As of right now, there are nine total Agents we know of plus one more that is currently in the game files. In no order, these are the Agents that are public: Sage, Sova, Brimstone, Breach, Phoenix, Viper, Cypher, Jett, and Omen.

Out of these nine, only a couple can be considered the “best” or top-tier. We know this mainly because of the early access gameplay and by simply looking at their abilities. So, if you’re looking for a dominant Agent to main in Valorant, here are our suggestions.

Phoenix

Phoenix Agent Valorant

One of the cover Agents for Valorant, Phoenix was a widely popular character in the early access gameplay we saw. The fiery character has some tactical abilities that not only benefit you, but your team as well. His Ultimate Ability, “Run It Back,” is especially useful since it saves you and your teammates from dying. Think of a Tactical Insertion from Call of Duty.

As for his other three abilities, two revolve around blinding the enemy. Though, his “Hot Hands” Basic Ability can also heal you and your teammates upon impact. You can read the full list of his abilities in our Valorant Agent guide.

Sage

Another popular choice by those who got to play Valorant early, Sage is the healer of this game. Very similar to Mercy from Overwatch, Sage’s Signature and Ultimate abilities revolve around healing the team.

However, it’s her Basic Abilities that lift her to the top of the Agent list. One of the abilities, “Slow Orb,” casts a green ball of smog that causes enemies to slow down if they come in contact with it. As for the other Basic Ability, “Barrier Orb,” this allows Sage to place a huge wall on the ground. Effective at providing cover, this wall can also be scaled by teammates in order to reach areas previously inaccessible.

In our opinion, Phoenix and Sage are the best Agents at this time in Valorant. However, a couple of honorable mentions include Breach and Brimstone, who rain down heavy fire on enemy teams. Using any of the aforementioned Agents should yield you a high probability for success.
