Ranked Play has officially been confirmed and was given a release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. As per usual, the competitive mode will not be arriving on day one when the game launches.
While this might be disappointing to some players, it’s likely to gather a proper ruleset for the mode. The competitive Call of Duty League season won’t start until December, so the developers need to design the ruleset after that starts. Then, once the professional players get their ruleset down, it can be applied to Ranked Play.
In the guide below, you can read about when Ranked Play is set to release in Modern Warfare 3.
Ranked Play release date in Modern Warfare 3
Announced at COD Next, Ranked Play is set to release sometime during Season 1 of MW3. It’s said that the developers are aiming for a release date in Season 1 Reloaded, which is an update that will arrive sometime in January. Season 1 is almost certainly set for December and the reloaded updates always launch a few weeks after the initial season launch.
As for the developers of Ranked Play, Treyarch will be back designing the mode again. Treyarch has developed the ranked mode in Call of Duty for the past three years, and it’s back again for MW3. As such, you can expect very similar UI and other aspects as Ranked Play in MW2.

Right now, that’s all we know about Ranked Play in MW3. It will likely use the same mapset that the professional players in the Call of Duty League are currently using, which is a mixture of Terminal, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Sub Base, Scrapyard, and Skidrow. However, in the months to come, more maps could be added and some could be taken away.
We will officially know what the mapset and ruleset Ranked Play will use when the CDL begins in early December.
