Call of Duty Black Ops 2020 reveal

When is Call of Duty 2020 being revealed?

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

As the calendar turns to May, the Call of Duty community turns its attention to the next series title. Traditionally, this is the month that Activision chooses to reveal the newest game in the franchise. This was true last year for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the year before that with Black Ops 4.

Of course, with the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, this time frame could be extended. However, according to some leaks, developer Treyarch is still on track to release the title in the fall. So, with that in mind, should we expect Activision to reveal Call of Duty 2020 this month?

Predicting the Call of Duty 2020 announcement

If the leaks are true and Treyarch really is on track with the game, then Activision should also be on track with the worldwide reveal. In the past, this announcement has usually come in the form of a trailer for the Campaign mode. At least, that’s what the company did for Modern Warfare one year ago.

While this was the case for Modern Warfare, there wasn’t nearly as much uncertainty around that game as there is for Call of Duty 2020. Rumor has it that Activision put Treyarch in charge over Sledgehammer Games, which was unexpected for the Black Ops developers.

Due to this course change, Treyarch was reportedly very behind with the development last year. The game, which is rumored to be set in the Black Ops universe, was supposedly “a mess” last May. This has apparently changed since then.

If everything is going as planned for Treyarch and Activision, then the community should expect a reveal this month. Presumably, Activision will wait until the latter stages of May to make the announcement. This gives the developers more time to put together footage and prepare the trailer.

Of course, with the current state of the world, things are certainly subject to change. Though, the fact we haven’t heard anything official is actually a good sign, as that’s normally the case before worldwide Call of Duty reveals.
