Pokémon Go players on Feb. 13 stumbled upon a surprising research task dubbed Ghost in the Machine, and like a ghost, shortly after it vanished from the game.
This listing teased an encounter with a hidden Pokémon alongside more rewards for players who are able to solve a code. While details surrounding the code are yet to be uncovered, there is an explanation of what exactly this mission is referring to.
Here’s what you need to know about Pokémon Go’s Ghost in the Machine mission.
‘Catch me if you can’: Ghost in the Machine research in Pokémon Go, explained
The Ghost in the Machine research appears to be referring to the Paranormal Puzzle experience to be held at Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh – Los Angeles.
Attendees at the event will collaborate to uncover a secret code ultimately leading to an encounter with Rotom. Eventually, once the code has been deciphered trainers around the world will have their chance to redeem the encounter also.
This was first announced via the Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh – Los Angeles blog post, and seems to line up with the research that appeared in some player’s Pokémon Go games on Feb. 13.
Alongside the Rotom encounter you will get 479 XP, and 479 Stardust. The number is directly tied to the Pokédex listing of Rotom, which should give away what the encounter is to those who see it among their in-game tasks.
This upcoming event will take place on Feb. 17, so expect to get more information related to the research then.
