If you’ve been playing MW3 Zombies and managed to take one and beat the challenge which is Gorm’Gant, you were probably left with the reward of a Locked Diary, which at first could seem a little disappointing.
Upon picking up this rare item it isn’t immediately clear what it’s used for, but the good news is that it’s extremely important, so getting your hands on one is a major win for your Zombies campaign. Here’s what you need to know about the Locked Diary.
Locked Diary purpose in MW3 Zombies?
The Locked Diary item in Call of Duty: MW3 Zombies is used to open the Dark Aether Rift during your adventures in the mode, but on its own, it might as well be a glorified paperweight.
This item is one of four things that when used together can open the Dark Aether Rift with the other three being the Surveillance Camera, Dog Collar, and Pill Bottle. Unless you have all four of these any one item is going to be useless.
If you do have the Locked Diary the best thing you can do is deposit it at the Rift Pedestal that it corresponds to. Just be sure that if you are leaving the map you go back and collect it again as if you don’t you will lose it entirely. This is the Cryo Freeze Pedestal located on the small island near the very center of the map at the marker called Dark Aether Rift. This location can be seen on the map above.
Doing this for the Locked Diary alongside the other three items will grant you access to the Dark Aether Rift which can be a powerful place to visit during your Zombies adventures, filled with unique rewards so we’d suggest doing it as soon as you can. But be prepared for a fight!
