The nuke has, after over one year of speculation, finally been dropped on Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone. The April 22 release of Season 3 will at long last bring the universes of Warzone and Black Ops Cold War together by introducing a new map.

While nothing is official as of yet, the new map is likely going to be a 1980’s version of Verdansk. Rumors and leaks from insiders have posited this is the likeliest result, but players will officially know when Season 3 releases.

The full nuke event in Call of Duty: Warzone

The event in Warzone has three stages, with the first being the actual nuke cinematic itself. NoahJ456 captured the cinematic and tweeted: “VERDANSK IS DESTROYED. WOW!”

For any fans hoping the nuke would leave some resemblance of the old Verdansk behind, that’s best left at the door. The nuke completely encompassed the map and left nothing but rubble.

As of the time of writing, there’s a new playlist in Warzone called “The Destruction of Verdansk Part I” that’s currently playable. In “Destruction of Verdansk Part 1,” players become a zombie if they die and obtain superhuman powers.

The playlist won’t be up forever though, as it ends April 21 before Season 3 launches. However, there have been some technical problems with it, so the developers might extend its lifespan.

The next stage for Warzone is a fresh game update when Season 3 launches in Black Ops Cold War. However, the new map won’t release with this update. Instead, the map will launch with the third stage at 3 p.m. ET on April 22. This allows players to experience the new season in Cold War and Warzone separately.

There’s currently no word on what the Warzone game update will contain. The official Call of Duty blog is updating every so often, with the latest intel suggesting Rebirth Island is going to stay in the map rotation.

The intel should continue to pour in up to the release of the new Warzone map. Until then, players can keep up to date with all news on the Call of Duty social media accounts.
