If you were planning on preordering a PlayStation 5 as soon as that puppy is available, be aware that you may only be able to pre-purchase one console. A Reddit user has found—while digging through the PlayStation Direct website source code—that an error message will appear if you try to buy more than one PS5.

The embedded error message says: “You can only purchase one version of the PS5™ Console: Disc or Digital. You have already added one PS5™ to your cart.”
So even if you were planning on picking up one of each (disc and digital-only) version of the PS5, you can only choose one. Choose wisely while getting in your preorders, folks. This is not the time for drunken shopping.
But even if you weren’t wanting one of each, you can still only purchase one console for your household. In other words, this gives you the perfect excuse to buy for yourself and tell the kids they’ll have to wait until later to get one of their own. Gaming parents should be thanking Sony on this point alone.
Although, this is just from Sony’s PlayStation Store, so there is nothing stopping you from preordering the console from multiple retailers. It’s also possible that other online retailers like Amazon or Best Buy won’t impose this preorder limitation on their own sites.
PS5 preorders coming soon?
The Redditor also pointed out that with this source code already within the site, Sony may open preorders within the next couple of weeks. The fact that the source code also has “PS5 Compatible” labels buried in the code for PS4 games that can run on the PS5 suggests at the very least we will see the preorder process open very soon.
As soon as a price is announced and PS5 preorders open, Daily Esports will let you know.
