Treyarch addresses issues that plague Zombies mode in Black Ops 4

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Earlier this week, Treyarch announced patch notes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 that took effect immediately via Reddit. Amid the multitude of tweaks, adds, deletions, and various other changes, Treyarch endeavored to fix the recent issues that have plagued the Zombies portion of the game. Call of Duty has famously been known for evolving into a title with a trinity of segments. While Blackout replaced the single-player campaign for the third spot in Black Ops 4, Zombies mode has been a part of that build for quite some time. With the advent of Blackout, the once-popular Zombies mode hasn’t seen the magnitude of players that competitive multiplayer and Blackout modes have embraced as of late.

While Zombies mode hasn’t been as popular as its counterparts, it still retains an ardent fanbase.  Unfortunately, Zombies mode has suffered from a number of crashes since launch. This has resulted in negative feedback from the community who favor the Zombies segment of the game. As highlighted by Eurogamer, Twitch streamer Summit1g became a casualty of Zombie mode’s frequent instability. In the clip below, he had sunk a couple hours into a particular game and gearing up to take on the final boss when the game crashed.

Treyarch’s statement

In addition to the recent tweaks that Treyarch has made to Zombies mode this week, the studio issued a statement on the matter via Reddit. Here is what they had to say:

Black Ops 4 represents our most ambitious Zombies offering to date and since launch, it’s been great to see how deeply our fans invest themselves into the game. We want to take this opportunity to address stability issues, particularly during Easter Egg quests: game stability is and will continue to be the number one priority of the Zombies develo9pment team until these issues are resolved.

In our most recent major game update we added new technology to help us track down the more complex Zombies crashes, and these tools now allow us to isolate the issues with the highest frequency. We’re working through that list in priority order, and will be releasing several fixes over the course of the next few updates.

The studio went on to share that while they’re up for the task, they ask for patience as the problems do not have simple solutions. Treyarch has been nothing but transparent through this entire process starting with the initial beta. The studio has addressed fans frequently since the beginning and promises to continue to do so through continued updates as problems with the game’s stability are identified and resolved.
