Last week, the Overwatch League announced the cancellation of all homestand events in March and April. This includes the Toronto Defiant’s homestand, originally planned for April 18-19. But the Defiant has announced that the tickets for this event won’t go to waste.
Fans and supporters will have their purchased tickets automatically moved to the Defiant’s August homestand dates, which are set for Aug. 8-9. This also means ticket owners do not need to purchase new ones.
In the announcement, the Toronto Defiant also advised about refunds. If any ticket holders have a scheduling conflict for the homestands happening in August, then they should expect an email from Ticketmaster sometime soon. We don’t know when exactly these emails will arrive, though, as the COVID-19 situation is leading to a number of canceled events – and, therefore, a huge workload for Ticketmaster to tackle.
The Overwatch League moving forward
Along with this announcement, the Overwatch League also issued a statement regarding public health concerns. “The health and safety of employees, fans, players, teams, and partners is paramount to Activision Blizzard Esports,” the post reads.
The OWL also clarified in a subsequent tweet that it is not canceling the 2020 league. “The ability to do this in the face of unforeseen challenges like COVID-19 is part of what makes our business so unique,” the Twitter thread stated.
While Overwatch and Toronto Defiant fans wait for the rescheduled homestand games to take place, they can still participate in other community events. For instance, Overwatch streamer Nathan “KarQ” Chan launched a new series last Tuesday. KarQ is a streamer for the Toronto Defiant, and his weekly series features reviews of key moments in gameplay. This week, the first-ever fan edition of the review series will be available to watch and enjoy.
To submit clips of gameplay, players should tweet either the link to their HD YouTube video or share their replay code and timestamp from their respective battle.net account. Players should also use the #KarQsReviews hashtag.
