The internet reacts to the 9-3 curse from FaZe Clan versus 100 Thieves

Just when hope seemed lost, the 9-3 curse came true once again

On the third map between FaZe Clan and 100 Thieves in the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022 North America Last Chance Qualifiers, the 9-3 curse came to fruition and the internet noticed. After hitting the half down 9-3, FaZe Clan didn’t lose a single round in the second half to win the series 2-1. This led to some discussions on the internet, mostly around how scary FaZe Clan looked to secure the 9-3  curse.

After winning Haven 13-6, FaZe hit a snag on Breeze and lost 13-8. After two maps where one team clearly looked better than the other, fans expected a close map three. It didn’t start that way, as 100 Thieves built a significant 9-3 lead. Alas, that was when FaZe Clan went on a run, winning pistols, anti-eco and the bonus round. Off of that, they just kept winning off of multiple clutches from multiple players. FaZe didn’t lose a round, winning the map 13-9.

The players themselves speak on the match

To start, we had the early reactions from the players and coaches who surrounded the match. One of the first tweets around this was from The Guard player Jacob “valyn” Batio, who had two tweets about the scenario. The first was just a “wow,” but the second was more in-depth.

He simply tweeted, “FaZe versus 100 Thieves plus a 9-3 curse is the best dynamic duo in the world.” Not only were these teams in these positions before, but history repeated itself in their upper bracket matchup in the NA LCQ.

Valyn’s teammate Jonah “JonahP” Pulice also tweeted about the result, but with a little more worry.

JonahP said, “So, um, yeah; we play FaZe Clan next week.” With that win over 100 Thieves, FaZe Clan will face The Guard in the upper bracket final.

Then, the players and coaches in the match spoke up, starting with 100 Thieves assistant coach Michael “Mikes” Hockom.

After confirming the 9-3 curse, 100 Thieves’ coach simply said “3 days to fix things before we play Sentinels”, their next opponent in the lower bracket.

FaZe Clan have a perfect half to reinforce the 9-3 curse

Looking back on when the curse was happening, it was clear who was the catalyst in the perfect half. Andrej “babybay” Francisty popped off, with highlight moments almost absorbing the confidence from the other team.

It wasn’t all Babybay, as each player on FaZe Clan had their moments to keep the rounds on their side. Another great player in the half was Kevin “poised” Ngo, who had multiple clutch rounds to help win the series.

Tweeting that “4th quarter runs in the veins,” poised was hyped after helping his team win.
