The light machine gun category in Call of Duty: Vanguard had four options for players to choose from. Among them are classic World War II weapons that most players should be familiar with. The first LMG that players unlock is perhaps the most classic of them all: the MG42. As in most Call of Duty titles, the MG42 is a strong option in the class, mostly due to its top loadout in Vanguard.
The MG42 has the most balanced stats out of all of the LMGs in Vanguard. It comes with decent mobility for a weapon of its size and an extremely high rate of fire. The one stat that could use a buff is the damage range, as it can be a hitmaker machine with a certain set of attachments. However, players can avoid this by equipping the MG42’s recommended loadout in Vanguard multiplayer.

Along with increasing damage range, the MG42 loadout also addresses recoil control to an extent. Like most other LMGs, the MG42 has great base recoil control but some of the other attachments on the loadout increase it slightly.
- Muzzle:Â Scythe Compensator
- Barrel:Â Krausnick 450MM B42MG
- Optic:Â Monocular Reflector
- Stock:Â Krausnick S91MG
- Underbarrel:Â MK6 Para
- Magazine:Â 8MM Jaeger 50 Round Fast Mags
- Ammo Type:Â Subsonic
- Rear Grip:Â Leather Grip
- Proficiency:Â Tight Grip
- Kit:Â Defender
The most important attachment on this loadout is the Krausnick 450MM B42MG barrel. It decreases recoil but improves damage range and bullet velocity by a wide margin. The barrel is followed up by the Scythe Compensator, MK6 Para, Krausnick S91MG and Tight Grip to boost its accuracy and recoil control.
Rounding out the loadout are some mobility attachments, like the Leather Grip, to improve ADS speed. The last attachment is the Defender Kit, which players can only make use of if they’re mounted. This MG42 loadout is certainly among the best in the light machine gun class of Vanguard.
