The conversation regarding the best assault rifle in Call of Duty: Warzone was shaken up with the Season 5 update last week. For most of Season 4, the KG M40 dominated the AR class, with guns like the STG44, NZ-41, and Cooper Carbine lurking behind it. However, Raven Software saw this and decided to bring the KG M40 down a notch to be more competitive with those other assault rifles.
While the KG was nerfed, there wasn’t enough of a change to remove it entirely from the best AR debate. It’s still a strong weapon with extremely low recoil, great damage range and a decent fire rate. The nerf to the KG did allow other weapons to insert themselves into the debate, though. One rifle, the Cooper Carbine, has the best claim to usurp the KG M40 as the best AR in Warzone Season 5. The question is, which weapon should be atop the class?
Best AR in Warzone Season 5
In our opinion, the nerfs to the KG M40 were just enough to allow the Cooper Carbine to take the edge in the best AR conversation. The Cooper was already the top AR in Warzone when Season 4 was going on, according to some content creators. With the KG’s nerf and the Cooper not receiving much of a change at all in Season 5, we feel confident to call it the best AR in Warzone as of right now.
The Cooper has superior damage range to the KG M40 in Season 5, and the two weapons’ recoil control is fairly close. Higher mobility is also on the side of the Cooper Carbine, giving players more freedom to navigate the map. All in all, the Cooper Carbine just edges out the KG M40 due to the nerfs the KG received in Season 5. Players will still need to use the Cooper’s best loadout in Season 5 to make it stronger than the KG, though.

It’s very possible that the Cooper Carbine is replaced itself sometime later in Season 5. However, for now, we see it as the top AR in Warzone.
