Team USA announce final 2019 Overwatch World Cup roster

Team United States of America has announced their final roster for the 2019 Overwatch World Cup on Twitter. This reveal comes almost a month after the first statement about Team USA’s shortlist of players. Before the announcement, the team released a teaser video showing a calendar, to which fans replied with sarcastic comments about how slow the decision was.

The players on the final roster of seven players were revealed by different positions in waves of 1 – 2 hours each.

In the first tweet by Team USA, Houston Outlaws flex support player Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty was announced. Rawkus joined the Houston Outlaws in 2017 and has played for Team USA in the World Cup for the past 2 years. He mains heroes like Ana, Zenyatta, and Sombra. Rawkus is joined by San Francisco Shock main support player Grant “Moth” Espe as well. This is Moth’s second year playing for Team USA in the World Cup. He joined OWL team San Francisco Shock in 2018 after previously playing for Toronto Esports.

The Team USA Twitter then announced two players for the tank position. This includes San Francisco Shock main tank Matthew “super” DeLisi and Los Angeles Valiant off tank Indy “SPACE” Halpern. It will be SPACE’s second year on Team USA, while it’s super’s first time as part of the organization.

Finally, the team revealed their three DPS players. Washington Justice DPS player Corey “Corey” Nigra and Los Angeles Valiant DPS player Kyle “KSF” Frandanisa join for the first year. San Francisco Shock DPS player Jay “Sinatraa” Won will play for Team USA for the third year. The San Francisco Shock placed 2nd in the 2019 Overwatch League Regular Season. However, the Los Angeles Valiant placed 13th and the Washington Justice placed almost last.

Overwatch World Cup

Team USA was knocked out of the Overwatch World Cup by Team South Korea in both 2016 and 2017. In 2018, the team lost to Team United Kingdom, ending up in the same place as previous years. Aaron “Aero” Atkins will remain the coach, but the roster has been changed up, hopefully to alleviate past mistakes.
