Tarik fans lose 24 million channel points betting on Gambit at Champions

Over 28.6 million channel points were distributed to Team Secret believers

VALORANT Champions fans lost a combined 24 million channel points on the stream of Tarik “tarik” Celik — a former professional Counter-Strike player for Evil Geniuses and official watch party host for Day 2 of the tournament — after betting on Gambit Esports to win against Team Secret.

In the opening match on Day 2 of VALORANT Champions, Masters Berlin champions Gambit faced off against Team Secret for the second match of Group C. Team Secret, formerly Bren Esports, were an unknown team coming into Champions due to their lack of experience playing on the international stage. They were unable to attend Masters Berlin after travel restrictions prevented them from leaving the Philippines. Despite this, there was a chance that, at Champions, Gambit could pull away with the win during the first map of the series on Icebox.

Tarik’s fans waged against Team Secret using channel points on his stream. Channel points are earned by fans interacting with Twitch streams of any creators. This includes watching for any amount of time, commenting in chat and interacting with emotes.

No faith in Team Secret

When the friendly gamble concluded, tarik’s fans had bet over 4 million channel points in favor of Team Secret, while over 24 million points were spent in favor of Gambit. The first map of the series was Icebox; a low start for the former Berlin champions.

Team Secret took the lead 8-4 against Gambit, who won both pistol rounds to bring the round count to six in their favor. However, five consecutive rounds from Team Secret put the nail in Gambit’s coffin. In an unexpected turn of events, Team Secret came out victorious on Icebox to beat Gambit 13-6. When the match concluded, fans from tarik’s stream, that had bet on Team Secret winning, were distributed a total of 28.6 million channel points between 1,326 stream watchers.
