Tanner “SKITTLES!!” Jordan won Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Singles at The Box: Juice Box #7 on July 22. The online tournament was part of a weekly series hosted by Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma and Team Liquid.
Despite being seeded rather high, SKITTLES!! fell into the losers bracket much earlier than expected. He suffered an upset loss at the hands of Troy “BassMage” Waters in the first round of top 64. However, his subsequent losers run was nothing short of spectacular.
SKITTLES!! advanced into top 8 by defeating the likes of Christian “Smallleft” Low, Abhinandan “Red16” Chachra, and Luis “Lui$” Oceguera. Once in top 8, he narrowly eliminated Rylan “ChunkyKong” Silva and “Sonix” to reach top 4 of Juice Box #7. Both of those sets went to game five.
In Losers Semis, SKITTLES!! beat Webb “WebbJP” J. 3-1. Then in Losers Finals, he convincingly handed David “LeoN” Leon a 3-0 loss. Finally, SKITTLES!! faced off against Spencer “BestNess” Garner in Grand Finals. He won both sets 3-2 in order to become the Juice Box #7 champion.
Other results from The Box: Juice Box #7
Unsurprisingly, BestNess had a fantastic run at The Box: Juice Box #7. In top 64, he beat Mason “Moxie” B., Benji “Loaf” Rust, and Ryan “Ravenking” McDonough without dropping a game. Then in top 8, BestNess earned 3-1 victories against both Sonix and LeoN. Though he fell short of 1st place, BestNess continues to cement himself as one of Smash Ultimate’s best online players.
WebbJP had an unexpected run to 4th place at this event, scoring many upsets in the process. Notably, he managed to make top 8 on winners side. On the way, he beat Dylan “Slime” C. 2-1, Kolawole “Kola” Aideyan 2-1, and Lui$ 2-0. After losing to LeoN in Winners Semis, WebbJP impressively beat Kola again, this time winning 3-1.
Though he finished just shy of top 8, Walker “Walnut” L. made a shockingly good run at Juice Box #7. The Ice Climbers main placed 9th, scoring many upsets in the process. Walnut fell into the losers bracket during pools, dropping a set to Ethan “Silentwave” Young. However, he managed to eliminate many talented players, including Colin “colinies” Landals, BassMage, and Griffin “Fatality” Miller.
