Scump states CDL is working on a pause feature for Black Ops Cold War

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the 2020 Call of Duty League season was the lack of a pause function. Several games ended in controversy due to a player either lagging out or not being present for the start. However, the league, without the ability to pause, simply played the map out. Obviously, the majority of fans and players felt this was grossly unfair. Due to the online nature of the league, players had no way to control their ability to stay in matches at all times. Though, this may be getting fixed in 2021 for Black Ops Cold War, according to Seth “Scump” Abner.

2021 Call of Duty League to add a pause feature?

This was a move that the community could see coming for a couple of reasons. For starters, the obvious controversial results in 2020 likely opened up Activision’s eyes to the need for a function like this. The less controversy the league can avoid, the better.

However, the second reason is due to the CDL now being played on PC instead of PlayStation 4. Since the players, officials, and casters will now play Black Ops Cold War on PC, a pause feature is much easier to implement.

Scump recently talked about the CDL’s intentions to add a pause feature on a recent live stream. While his word isn’t official, professional players have more insight into the inner workings of the CDL than the standard fan.

Note that the CDL has a pause feature, but only on LAN. With the uncertainty that 2021 holds in regards to the COVID-19 virus, it seems likely at least some of the season will be played online. When the CDL went away from LAN in 2020, the pause feature went away with it. Although, it now seems the league is working on having this function available both on LAN and online. We’ll have to wait until the Black Ops Cold War season draws nearer to find out if this is true or not, though,
