Psyonix has swung the hammer and banned two Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) players. After allegedly throwing their final game in the last match of the OCE RLCS season, Psyonix has determined Aiden “delusioN” Hendry and Finlay “Frenzyy” Rockach, formerly of Team Esper, to be guilty. The third player on their team, Steve “SSteve” Berrospi, denied any involvement in throwing and Psyonix agreed. delusioN and Frenzyy have received a one-year ban from all Psyonix-operated tournaments, while SSteve will not be subject to the disciplinary action. Both banned players will also be forced to forfeit their prize money for that specific match.
Team Esper throw their final RLCS game
Having lost their own play-off spot in the previous game, Team Esper had the fate of two teams in their hands for the final game. If they won, their rivals Renegades would finish fourth. If they lost, direct opponents Fury would.
DelusioN and Frenzyy deliberately lost that game and did not even bother to try, while SSteve continued to play to the best of his abilities. After that final RLCS match, the players were immediately dropped by the organization, while SSteve announced the following day that he had left the roster. Psyonix quickly came with a statement that they were investigating, and after looking at chat logs, replay files, and speaking to OCE tournament organizer Let’s Play Live, they came to the conclusion that DelusioN and Frenzyy did indeed break the official RLCS rules, which state that players should always play to the best of their ability.
The banhammer was swung swiftly and clearly, and the community praises Psyonix for taking quick action. But while the punishment is just, Renegades still lose out on a play-off spot and more prize money. Of course, there is no good way to deal with that situation, so the league standing will remain as is and Renegades will have to re-qualify next season. Fury will have a chance at securing their RLCS spot in the playoffs on April 12 and 13 by finishing in first or second place.
