In an unexpected move, Pokémon is teaming up with pop-music star Katy Perry for its 25th Anniversary. Together, they will be part of a new music program with Universal Music Group for Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary in 2021.
Here’s everything we know about the collaboration, including what the singer had to say about it.
Pokémon and Katy Perry collaborate
Katy Perry is a big fan of the franchise, and in particular, Pikachu. She sat down with People magazine for an interview to discuss the new partnership. “I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world,” Perry told them.
Katy Perry states that she has been going to Japan annually ever since she was 17 years old. Now, at 36, she has a child of her own and wants to share her love for the franchise with the world through her music.
You can’t have a party without a playlist! Right, @katyperry?
Hope you’re ready for some exciting musical surprises this year, Trainers!
