Pokémon GO to introduce Pokémon trainers on the map for Kanto Tour

If you want to level your Pokémon up in the core series games, you have to battle other trainers in the game. In Pokémon GO, other trainers don’t exist outside of PVP battles. During the upcoming Kanto Tour event, however, there will be Pokémon GO trainers on the map.

Here’s what we know about the Pokémon trainers that will be on the map, and how you can get your character as an NPC trainer.

Pokémon GO Trainers

During the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event players will be able to find and battle other trainers. There will be special research rewards for battling and defeating them. These trainers will appear on the map in the real world.

The NPC trainers will be based on real Pokémon GO players’ avatars. Here’s how players can get their avatar to be a featured trainer during the event.

Pokémon GO is holding a competition to decide who will appear as trainers during the event. To enter, players must post a screenshot of their trainer profile that includes their name and shows their avatar with the hashtag “PokemonGOTourContest” on Twitter. They must also list three Pokémon that will be on their team that were originally from the Kanto Region that doesn’t include Ditto, Legendary, or Mythical Pokémon.

Submissions must be made on Twitter by Monday, January 11, 2021, 11:59 PM PT. The entries will be judged on the creativity of the avatar outfit, the theme of the submission, and the Pokémon team composition. A good submission, for example, is one that matches the theme of the Pokémon with the appearance of the outfit. A Ghost-type trainer with a spooky theme, for example.

Anyone with Twitter and a Pokémon GO account can enter to become a trainer during the event. Be sure to check out the contest and try to become a trainer yourself!
