PGL announced on Thursday that the Dota 2 Arlington Major will take place in Arlington, Texas at the Esports Stadium Arlington from Aug. 4, 2022 to Aug. 14, 2022. The event will be the third Major of the season right before The International 11 which takes place in October.

PGL announces Arlington Major in Texas

The third Dota Major of the year returns to the United States as the first large-scale Dota event since ESL: Los Angeles 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also the second official Major that the United States will ever host after the Boston Major in 2016. “DOTA 2 has a lot of fans in the US, and Arlington has a perfect location for tournaments of this caliber: Esports Stadium,” said Silviu Stroie the PGL CEO. “We are fortunate to be back in North America with another Major after Boston. We love to run events in the USA, and we have wonderful memories from 2016: it was a great tournament, and the fans were fantastic. Having a tremendous tournament with DOTA 2 enthusiasts in the stands after a long time will be great!”

With the addition of the Arlington Major, both the Dota Majors of the year have been announced. The first will be the ESL Stockholm Major which will take place in Hovet Arena, Stockholm, Sweden from May 20-22. Teams will play another regular season to earn the appropriate Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points and will be invited to the Arlington Major after the third tour of the DPC 2022.

The Dota Pro Circuit was supposed to have three Majors every year. However, the first Major of the year was canceled due to the rise of the Omicron variant. Instead, Valve instituted online, regional finals in order to determine how the DPC points would be split up among teams.
