Paris Legion replacing John before CDL Major IV

John looks to be on the way out of Paris
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

There aren’t too many organizations in the entirety of esports that have had a rougher start to their existence than the Paris Legion. Since the Call of Duty League was formed in 2019, the Paris Legion have finished in the bottom three of the standings every single year. True to form, this season might be their worst yet, as they only have two wins through three Majors. Because of this horrid performance, Paris is looking to make another change to their roster; this time, submachine gun player Jonathan “John” Perez is the one being subbed out.

According to a recent tweet, John is currently participating on a Challengers roster that is actively looking for an organization to represent. The roster consists of top Challengers players, including Florida Mutineers substitute Christian “Yeez” Faircloth. While the Legion or John have not officially said he’s off the starting roster, this tweet essentially confirms it.

It’s unclear exactly who Paris could be after as a replacement for John. However, leaks from CDL Intel state that the Legion could be looking at Challengers player John “Johnny” Cookson. Johnny has recently teamed with former NYSL player James “Clayster” Eubanks in Challengers and has placed well all season long.

John currently has a 0.89 KD throughout the entire season. Out of all players currently playing in the CDL, this is good for third-worst in the entire league. John has only finished one event/qualifying round with a KD at or above 1.00 (a 1.00 KD during the Major II qualifiers). Stats aside, though, John has made life difficult for his submachine gun duo, Donny “Temp” Laroda. Temp is arguably one of the best players in Vanguard, posting a 1.11 KD so far this season, the fourth-highest in the CDL. However, because of John’s poor performance, Temp’s stats usually don’t matter at the end of a match; Paris loses regardless.

The Legion are almost certainly out of the running for a spot at Champs, as they need to make the top eight in the standings. With only 20 points to their name, it seems adding Johnny to the roster is a possible look to the future. Paris is relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada in the offseason, so perhaps Johnny could be a part of that team next season if he performs well in Major IV.
