The Overwatch League (OWL) is heading to Miami for Week 6, and players and coaches will have to prepare with a fresh new set of hero bans. This time around, players will not be able to use Winston, Soldier 76, Sombra, and Lucio.
Week 5’s hero pool banned Reinhardt, McCree, Widowmaker, and Moira, and it had an immediate impact on the league. Reinhardt was the most played hero in the OWL over the first four weeks, and McCree was the second most played damage hero behind Mei, according to the OWL Stats Lab.
Week 6’s hero bans don’t look quite as impactful, except for Lucio, who was the most played support hero over the first four weeks before hero bans. Winston and Sombra were situational picks, and Soldier 76 saw barely any play before Week 5.
Week 6 hero ban winners
Sung-hyeon “JJoNak” Bang
Just like in Week 5, JJoNak should be able to freely play his staple Zenyatta again in Week 6 with Lucio being banned. He is arguably the best Zenyatta player in the world, and he will surely showcase it again against the Atlanta Reign on Saturday.
The Houston Outlaws
The Houston Outlaws don’t play on the week that Winston is out, which can only be a good thing for Austin “Muma” Wilmot. Houston will surely enjoy having the week off after getting their first two 2020 OWL wins. And Muma won’t have to worry about not being able to play Winston, either.
Week 6 hero ban losers
Petja “Masaa” Kantanen
The Atlanta Reign support player Masaa is a great Lucio player and will have to find other options this week. He and his team go up against the New York Excelsior on a week where JJoNak will surely flex his Zenyatta play. Atlanta will need to be at the top of their game to get the win.
The Toronto Defiant
The Toronto Defiant has played Sombra more than most other teams. They are on a losing streak, and now they’ll have to go up against the Washington Justice without having Sombra as an option.
Who do you think will come out on top in Week 6? Do you think we will see more upsets like in Week 5?
