It’s been a while since we had any new content outside of cosmetics in Overwatch. Today, seemingly out of the blue, we get a look at a new Overwatch map called Kanezaka on the Public Test Region (PTR). Granted, it’s only a Free-For-All map, but it’s still something that fans can look forward to.
Here’s what we know about the map, when we expect it to come out, and how you can try it out for yourself now.
Kanezaka Free-For-All map
Kanezaka is a new Free-For-All map that’s presumably in Japan. If this is the case, this will be the second Japanese Overwatch map along with Hanamura. The map has an interesting mix of traditional aesthetics along with a more modern feel with shops and buildings.
As a Free-For-All map, players will only get to play Kanezaka in the arcade. There are currently two other Free-For-All maps: Chateau Guillard and Petra. This map will appear alongside them in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. You won’t see the new map in Quick Play or Competitive, as it doesn’t have objectives.

If you want to try the map right now, you will need to go on the PTR. To do this, go to your region and change it to “Public Test Region.” You will need to download and update to the current patch, and then you will have access to the new map.
Kanezaka comes as welcome content for Overwatch, which hasn’t had any new gameplay content since Echo came out earlier this year. This is likely the last bit of new content we will see in the game until Overwatch 2 comes out.
We will likely hear a lot more about the new addition to the franchise in the coming months, especially at Blizzcon in February. Be sure to stay tuned for more Overwatch news and stories!
