The first Overwatch League game of the last day of week three was a stomping from the first place team. The Vancouver Titans swept the Boston Uprising 4-0.
A record to be stolen
Heading into this match, these two teams were in very different situations. The Titans were still dominating almost every opponent they faced, with the games that were closer still being wins. On the other side, the Uprising are fighting for a playoff spot in both the stage and the overall standings. Vancouver are known for their great team play, while Boston is known for their capability to come back after a tough map loss.
Plus, there was weight in this match for both teams, as a record was set to be tied if the Titans won. The record for most consecutive wins (excluding playoffs) was set by last year’s Boston Uprising team, at a total of 14 wins. The Titans, if they won, would tie the record at 14 and be set to break it in the next match. Pride was on the line, and Boston just couldn’t stand to the pure strength that the Titans showed. Bright spots on the Uprising roster were Kelsey “Colourhex” Birse and Minseok “AimGod” Kwon, both performing well in the loss.
RunAway reformed
Nobody expected the Titans to be this good this season. Most people did recognize this roster as a team with a lot of cohesion, but they didn’t have Overwatch League experience. They would be the best expansion team, but top three? No way. Boy, how we were all wrong. This win sets the Vancouver Titans as a top-tier team that have really only been challenged a couple times. Very reminiscent of the New York Excelsior of last season, the Titans don’t seem to have many flaws. That was apparent in this match, with every player on the Titans having his moments. But the clear best player was Jooseok “Twilight” Lee, easily the best rookie and possibly the best support player in the league. His Ana and Zenyatta are both top-tier and are key to this team’s victories.
The Vancouver Titans play against local Canadian team Toronto Defiant after the Dallas home games. The Boston Uprising face the Los Angeles Gladiators after that break as well.
