A new cosplay event named the Mei Gala has been announced for May 13, 2021. The event features Overwatch League host Soe Gschwind and many cosplay influencers. This red-carpet event will showcase everything that fans create within the Overwatch and Overwatch League communities. Blurring the lines between cosplay and fashion, the Mei Gala is based on the theme “Our Best Is Us.”
The first Overwatch cosplay fashion event
The Overwatch cosplay community has been one of Blizzard’s biggest since the game’s launch. With such memorable characters, fan cosplay has led to many creative versions of their titular heroes. Also, the Overwatch League and their team-specific skins and colors have enabled even more unique cosplays. For example, this popular New York Excelsior version of Brigitte was in the lineup to the pop-up shop at the first Overwatch League Grand Finals.
However, differing from general conventions like BlizzCon, this event celebrates Overwatch cosplayers during the pandemic.
One of the best ways to connect the Overwatch and Overwatch League is through Soe. As a host for the Overwatch League, her charisma will easily lend itself to this cosplay fashion event. Additionally, several other popular cosplay influencers are expected to appear at the Mei Gala. Some big names include Overwatch lead character artist Renaud Galand and drag queen Overwatch fan Jinkx Monsoon.

On Thursday, May 13, 2021, the Mei Gala will stream on YouTube’s Overwatch League channel at 7 p.m. EST.
