OpTic looked as on point as ever in this series. The first round was CDL Hardpoint on Gavutu; OpTic won with a significant lead, 250-174. Things were a bit more evenly matched in the next game, CDL SND on Tuscan. OpTic still won, but the scoreline was closer at 6-5. The final game was CDL Control on Gavutu. OpTic once again came out on tip, this time taking the game 3-1. This series cemented a perfect run through the qualifiers, putting OpTic Texas at 5-0 going into the Major.

That alone would be impressive, but OpTic also flexed some of their other stats on Twitter after the game. “12 series wins in a row,” OpTic Texas tweeted. “14 control wins in a row.”

Atlanta FaZe play OpTic series with a sub

Atlanta FaZe’s poor performance in their matchup against OpTic Texas may have been due, at least in part, to the fact that they had to play with a substitute at the last minute. Before the series FaZe’s Chris “Simp” Lehr tweeted that he would not be playing in Sunday’s match against OpTic.

“Not playing vs optic today. Been throwing up all morning and I couldn’t make it through a warm up map before hand,” Simp tweeted. “Hopefully gonna feel better for the major.”

Taking his place against OpTic Texas was Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson. Simp and Prestinni were both on the eUnited team that won the 2019 Call of Duty League World Championship. But despite their sub’s pedigree, Atlanta FaZe just weren’t able to stop the on-fire OpTic Texas.

Both teams will next play in the Minnesota ROKKR CDL Major II, which starts March 31.
