The Greenwall lives on to fight another day as OpTic Chicago has defeated the Seattle Surge at the Call of Duty League Stage 2 Major. After yesterday’s shaky loss against the Toronto Ultra, Chicago needed this win not only to keep their Major hopes alive but maintain the belief they can be a top team.
Dropping to the loser’s bracket so early was never the plan for OpTic. Not only do they have to play more matches to reach the final but they run into teams that are coming off match wins. The Seattle Surge were one such team after they handily defeated Florida yesterday.
However, Seattle was no match for OpTic today as their Major comes to a close after losing 3-1.
OpTic Chicago moves on in the loser’s bracket
The series between the Surge and OpTic was exciting for the most part. While some of the maps were close at points, most concluded with one team blowing out the other. This began with the Surge taking the first Hardpoint by 48 points, which certainly had OpTic fans worried.
But, the Greenwall regained and took the next three maps handily. The Search and Destroy was a 6-1 wipe, the Control finished 3-1 and the final Hardpoint saw Chicago win by over 60 points. Brandon “Dashy” Otell once again showed out for OpTic, posting a huge 33/17 stat line in the second Hardpoint.

Dashy’s performance was closely followed by Seth “Scump” Abner, who continues to play well after a shaky stretch in Stage 2. All in all, the entire OpTic roster played well after the first Hardpoint, leaving the Surge in a tough position.
It’s ultimately a disappointment for Seattle, who were playing well heading into the Major. However, it’s clear the Surge need some work before they can hang with the CDL’s top teams. Perhaps Stage 3 will be a different story for the slowly improving roster.
OpTic Chicago plays the Minnesota ROKKR Saturday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This is the first time these two teams will play since the ROKKR embarrassed OpTic 3-0 in Eli “Standy” Bentz’s debut match.
