OG Ceb recovers from surgery, replaced by MiCKe

A surprise surgery might take away the three-peat from OG

OG offlaner Sébastien “Ceb” Debs posted a Twitlonger Friday to inform fans that he had surgery for a detached retina. The French player will be replaced by Team Liquid’s Michael “MiCKe” Vu for The International 10.

In the Twitlonger, Ceb stated that the detached retina was found when he went in for a routine check-up. The gravity of the situation made it so that Ceb had to go in for emergency surgery. While he has been recovering from the surgery, fans did not know whether he would still participate in the biggest Dota 2 tournament ever.

“This bad news felt like the sky collapsing on me, as you can imagine,” Ceb said in his Twitlonger. “Ever since I have been fighting every day to try to gain ground on the pain and the fatigue, hoping my recovery process would still allow me to attend TI. Unfortunately, as of now, I still can’t know if I will be back in a playing shape in time..”

Taking Ceb’s condition into account, OG has prepared a backup plan in the form of Team Liquid’s MiCKe. MiCKe is an experienced offlaner that has played against OG multiple times. He is also one of the few International-level offlaners not participating in the event. Team Liquid narrowly lost out on their chance to attend The International 10 due to losing the Western Europe Regional Qualifiers to Tean Nigma earlier in the year. As such, MiCKe was the only suitable replacement for Ceb on short notice.

The loss of Ceb cannot be understated as OG enter The International 10 with the hopes of becoming the first team to win the tournament three times in a row. OG has had a difficult year in their chase for a third title. They started the year off with Anathan “Ana” Pham on carry, hoping to reignite the formula that led them to their two previous championships. However, the third time was not the charm, as OG finished middle of the pack in the Western Europe Dota Pro Circuit. OG then added Syed “SumaiL” Hassan to the team and was narrowly able to make it out of the Western Europe Regional Qualifiers in order to make it to The International 10.
