Modern Warfare Prestige system will reportedly be ‘seasonal’

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

With just weeks before the worldwide launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, leaks are still roaming freely around social media. Most of these leaks can be attributed to one inside source that is communicating through YouTuber TheGamingRevolution. A few days ago, this source answered a plethora of questions on TGR’s Twitter, talking about the total map count, multiplayer modes, and other features. However, one more thing the source said teases Prestige system changes.

One of the more unique mechanics in Call of Duty over time has been the Prestige system. Leveling up from rank 1 all the way to rank 55 and receiving different emblems for each prestige was truly distinctive to COD. In fact, earning the max prestige rank on titles such as Modern Warfare 1 and 2 was the highest honor one could achieve.

The original Modern Warfare introduced the Prestige system that we’ve come to know today.

However, as part of the Q&A session on TGR’s Twitter, the source answered a question on the new prestige system that suggests palpable changes:

This answer is both confusing and intriguing as “Seasonal” could mean many things. Although, it most likely means that the new system will employ similar seasons like Fortnite and Apex Legends. Each season will likely come with a seasonal level that will have a max rank players can achieve through enough playtime.

How would this new Prestige system work in theory?

In Modern Warfare, the system would work similarly to Fortnite and Apex Legends. However, instead of each level giving various rewards, every level would hypothetically correspond with a different weapon, perk, killstreak, etc. For example, everyone would start at level 1 and rank up as per the normal prestige system. Level 2 would yield a weapon, level 3 would yield a perk, so on and so forth.

Unlike the popular battle royales however, the max level would likely be around 55 since there are so many usable items in Modern Warfare. If a player reaches level 55, they would receive different rewards every season. Each season would presumably last around a month or two.

This is all unconfirmed information though, as all leaks are. Even if TheGamingRevolution’s source has a stellar track record, things could still change leading up to release.
