Modern Warfare has more 6v6 maps on the way, says Infinity Ward

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

If there’s one thing the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare community has been vocal about, it’s the current maps. Infinity Ward went with a less traditional approach this year, introducing more convoluted and larger maps. While that may work for titles such as Battlefield, Call of Duty was built on small, fast-paced maps. The arcade-style shooter Call of Duty just doesn’t mesh well with huge areas that include dozens of buildings. Modern Warfare tried to change this meta, but it’s safe to say the community hasn’t responded. As such, Infinity Ward has confirmed they are working on more 6v6 maps.

6v6 maps incoming for Modern Warfare

At the start of Modern Warfare, there were really no traditional 6v6 style maps. The closest thing we had to 6v6 was Hackney Yard or Gun Runner, but those are still fairly large. About a month into the game though, we got Shoot House, which was quickly adored by the community.

Since then, we’ve seen Shipment, Vacant, and Crash introduced. However, those are all remakes. While it’s entirely possible we’re not done seeing remakes, it’s been confirmed more 6v6 maps are coming regardless. There is no word on when they will release, but Infinity Ward’s art director Joe Emslie said this on Twitter last night:

https://twitter.com/ArtPeasant/status/1214598093640851457?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1214598093640851457&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcharlieintel.com%2Fmodern-warfare-dev-says-theyve-heard-feedback-to-have-more-6v6-maps-working-as-fast-as-possible%2F58777%2F

Presumably, Infinity Ward didn’t expect such a negative reaction to their initial map pool in Modern Warfare. So, it makes sense that they weren’t prepared to release more 6v6 maps at this point in time. “As fast as we humanly can” probably means just that, though we don’t know when that will be.

While they had a rocky start, it seems Infinity Ward is trying their best to make up for lost time. Let’s hope the content they push out pleases a majority of the community.
