After nearly a year of speculation and rumors, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has officially been released on PlayStation 4 only. Originally, the community was expecting more than just the campaign; they wanted the multiplayer experience too. But this isn’t a total letdown, seeing as Modern Warfare 2 has a fantastic story. Activision’s reasoning behind releasing only the campaign remains unclear, but leakers suggest the multiplayer mode is complete behind the scenes as well. So, perhaps we could see a second release in the future.
Revisiting the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign
Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered lacking the multiplayer experience isn’t the biggest tragedy in this release. What’s more unfortunate is this remaster is only available for purchase on PlayStation 4 and not Xbox One or PC as of right now. Likely due to the deal Activision has with Sony, this is a big blow to Microsoft users around the globe. Though, Xbox and PC players can preorder the title for release “at a later date.”
If you are on PS4, you can pick up MW2 right now in the PS Store for $20. If you decide to purchase it, you’ll be rewarded with the “Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle.” This large cosmetic bundle comes with a plethora of skins you can equip in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare.
This bundle is absolutely free for anyone who buys Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. If you loved the original MW2 campaign, there’s no doubt you’ll love its remaster. All of the same missions, including “No Russian,” and characters are back in high definition.
While some may be disappointed with a Campaign-only remaster, this doesn’t mean we won’t see multiplayer arrive in the future. Leaks suggest MW2 maps will return — but only in Modern Warfare.
