This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

This is the beginning of a new trend for any esports league. Everyone is going environmentally friendly. NBA 2K‘s League team Magic Gaming announced a new endorsement deal with Boxed Water. Boxed Water will now be providing sustainably sourced cardboard water cartons. This will replace all plastic bottles at all Magic Gaming events and facilities. Magic Gaming is actually one of the 17 founding teams of the NBA 2K League.

The Boxed Water deal is the first time in NBA 2K‘s league history to partner with an environmentally conscious patron; times are changing. More and more leagues and esports teams are seeming to become conscious of getting earth-friendly. On top of including their products at their events, it also includes social media content.

The NBA website has this to say:

“Magic Gaming is thrilled to announce this socially responsible partnership with Boxed Water,” said Director of Magic Gaming Ryan DeVos. “It’s important as an organization to find ways to grow our business, but to also do that in a responsible manner. We are excited to introduce this great concept to all of our fans while integrating them in innovative ways through our digital platforms.”

About Boxed Water

Boxed Water is a relatively new bottled water company without the plastic. Their goal is to offer a convenient, environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic bottled water.  For the environmentally conscious consumers, it’s 100 percent recyclable and ships flat to its regional filling locations, reducing its carbon footprint compared to plastic.

Personally, I think this is an interesting move on leagues to care about the environment so much. The trend seems to be catching on as huge gaming festival organizer DreamHack just signed a endorsement deal with Fortum, a clean energy company. They are to be the main patron for CORSAIR DreamHack Masters 2018 in Stockholm.
