If there was any team that needed a tournament win, it was Luminosity. Having a rough start to the year with a 4th place finish at CWL Las Vegas and a lackluster Pro League performance, LG needed a victory. Their roster, which boasts two of the most talented players in the CWL, was far too good to remain a second tier team.

Even though it seemed like they might end up in the losers’ bracket after pool play, they dominated this event. Rolling through the winner’s bracket was no easy feat, as they took out potential favorites Gen.G. After annihilating Enigma 6 on Saturday night, they took on eventual runner-up Splyce in the winner bracket finals. There were a few close calls but LG moved on to the Grand Finals after a 3-1 victory.

Splyce then dropped down to the losers bracket finals, where they met the underdog of the tournament in Team Reciprocity. However, the EU squad couldn’t match up against Splyce, and the rematch was set in the Grand Finals.

It was obvious that Luminosity had all of the momentum heading into the Grand Finals. Splyce put up a couple of good fights especially in the Control where they came back from a 0-2 deficit. In the end, LG was simply too hot closing out the tournament, and won 3-1. Pierce “Gunless” Hillman was named MVP and continues to show why he is among the best in the CWL.

A truly dominating tournament win, Luminosity displayed the potential that everyone knew they possessed. Coming into the event, LG was coming off a rough showing at the Pro League. They survived the March RosterMania, but a bad placing at Fort Worth would have almost definitely broken up this talented roster.

With the likes of Gunless and Matthew “FormaL” Piper, LG has one of the scariest rosters in the CWL. It seemed like only matter of time before they came together and claimed a championship. The question now is, can they keep this momentum at the Pro League and beyond?
