lloD wins Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Melee @ Xanadu Online 386

Arjun “lloD” Malhotra won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Melee @ Xanadu Online 386 on December 30. It marked the return of Xanadu’s online Super Smash Bros. Melee tournaments after a four-month hiatus.

As expected, lloD swept through much of the first part of the bracket. He earned 2-0 victories over Roy “Trail” Valle, Ricardo “Rick” Garcia, and Sam “Frostbyte” Cashin. His first real challenge came in Winners Quarters, where lloD faced Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma. In a repeat of their set at the LACS 2, lloD defeated Hungrybox 2-1.

To kick off top 8, lloD beat Avery “Ginger” Wilson 3-1 in Winners Semis. Then, he dominantly overcame Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni with a 3-0 win in Winners Finals. SFAT came back stronger in Grand Finals, pushing lloD to game five. Still, lloD defeated SFAT 3-2 in order to win Melee @ Xanadu Online 386.

Notably, SFAT’s 2nd place finish at Melee @ Xanadu Online 386 was made easier due to a handful of upsets. For example, he beat Toussaint “2saint” Turnier (who had beaten Sasha “Magi” Sullivan), and Eduardo “Eddy Mexico” Lucatero Rincón (who had beaten Isaac “bobby big ballz” P). SFAT also secured victories against Arthur “404Cray” Hernandez, Logan “LSD” Dunn, and Ginger.

LSD scored multiple upsets and other impressive wins on his path to 4th place at this event. After dropping a set to SFAT, LSD eliminated Ben Strandmark, Matteo Caglioti, and Dawud “Aklo” Rahman. Then in top 8, he defeated Hungrybox and Eddy Mexico.

Outside of top 8 finishers, Luis “LAG” Guerra had perhaps the most notable performance of Melee @ Xanadu Online 386. He placed 9th using the low-tier Roy. LAG defeated Darin “Question” Moore, Christopher “NoFluxes” Jordan Fluxes, Frostbyte, and Billy “Billz” McTague. Meanwhile, he had respectable losses to Eddy Mexico and bobby big ballz.
