Among the 110 new collectible cards are Azir, Rite of Negation, Emperor’s Divide. To see the full list of all cards and their uses, check Mobalytics.

Aphelios nerfed in Patch 2.3.0

This patch will see Aphelios nerfed as Riot wants to flatly decrease the champion’s survivability and increase counterplay. The Aphelios card is very popular on the Call of Mountain expansion and it would be quite interesting to see how players adapt to this new update. Riot also explained that due to the power and versatility of his kit, they will continue to monitor his performance and make follow-up changes in the future if needed.

Challenges and Quests

New challenges to help players get more familiar with the new keywords, archetype and nine champions have also been added. AI decks which feature the new region and new cards are also included in the vs. AI opponent pool.

Asides from this, there are five new Empires of the Ascended archetypes added to the Expeditions draft pool. These new archetypes feature the new champions and their strategies. For Patch 2.3.0 Empires of the Ascended archetypes will be four times as likely as they would otherwise be to appear in the initial Champion picks. Riot will make changes to even it out in a later patch.

New Lab and Champion Mastery Feature

This patch also brings a new rotation to Multilab with the introduction of the United Front PvP. The United Front PvP is Legend of Runeterra’s first social lab.  It is a new way to play with friends and random partners. Another new feature of LoR in this patch is Champion Mastery. This will allow players to use play their favorite champions to increase their Champion Mastery level and unlock special card borders to show off their skills.

Ranked resets and Tournament updates

With Empires of the Ascended comes a ranked season reset. Players must fight hard in the Empires of the Ascended season to earn a spot in the next Seasonal Tournament. This Seasonal Tournament will take a new format with open rounds increasing from five to nine. This will allow for a total of 1024 competitors.

Additionally, all match times in the Seasonal Tournament will be reduced to 60 minutes and both Open Rounds and Playoffs are now moved from Sunday to Saturday. As for Gauntlets, the major change will come in Patch 2.4.0. However, the pick and ban and best of three format will return and become the primary format for Gauntlets.

Plans for a LoR World Championship are also in the works. Although there are no details yet on this tournament, it will involve the very best ranked and Seasonal Tournament players from around the world.
