The first Legends of Runeterra update since the game went into open beta on Jan. 24 has gone live. Patch 0.8.3 only includes a minimal amount of changes, including adding three guardians. However, the developers explained the reason for the minor update is the major upcoming update in two weeks from now.
How updates will work going forward
The majority of the new patch notes explain how Legends of Runeterra will be updated going forward. “Therewolf,” the live operations product manager at Riot Games for Legends of Runeterra, first clarified the patch designations. This new patch is called 0.8.3 because of the lack of changes in this update. The open beta patches start at 0.9. Then once the game is eventually officially released, the game will start the count at 1.0.
The current update schedule is set to an update going live every other Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m. PT. This update schedule is in line with the schedules of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. Both of these games receive updates every other Wednesday in the same week. Therewolf further explained that the current plan is alternate between large and small updates, with this patch counting as this month’s “small” patch.
New guardians added to Legends of Runeterra
This week’s update sees the introduction of the first three new guardians. Basilisk, Silverwing, and Gloomtooth can be purchased in the store of Legends of Runeterra. Guardians are similar to Little Legends in Teamfight Tactics. In that game, the Silverwing Little Legends are among the most popular of them all. It will be exciting to see which other guardians are joining the game in the upcoming few updates.
Besides the new guardians, this update includes several necessary bug fixes to some of the minor issues. We are eagerly awaiting the first big patch of the game, coming Feb. 18. For more Legends of Runeterra, be sure to read about five of the strongest decks.
