iBDW wins Smash Melee Singles at Frame Perfect Series 2: Online

Cody “iBDW” Schwab won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Frame Perfect Series 2: Online on September 19. In doing so, he continued to assert himself as one of Melee’s best online players. iBDW has placed in the top 3 at three of the four online tournaments he’s entered since the pandemic began.

Schwab swept through pools, defeating Niko “Razzle” H., “18reviewer,” and Dylan “Dawson” Dougherty without losing any games. He dropped his first game of the tournament in top 32, as he defeated Alexander “Komodo” Neal 2-1. Then in Winners Quarters, iBDW beat Jason “Gahtzu” Diehl 2-0, earning himself a spot in top 8.

IBDW kicked off top 8 on the right foot, defeating Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson 3-0. Then in Winners Finals, he beat Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. 3-1. Finally, iBDW faced off against Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma in Grand Finals. He faltered in the first set, losing to Hungrybox 1-3. However, iBDW bounced back with a 3-0 victory in the second set to win Frame Perfect’s online Melee event.

IBDW, along with many other top players, will compete in the Slippi Champions League beginning on October 11. In addition, Counter Logic Gaming will host a qualifier tournament on September 26. The two highest-placing players at The CLG Mixup will earn spots in Division 2 of the Slippi Champions League.

Despite an early drop into the losers bracket, Hungrybox still had a respectable 2nd place finish at Frame Perfect Series 2: Online Melee Singles. Hungrybox beat Erik Knuff 2-0 and Forrest Griffin 2-1 before suffering an upset loss to bobby big ballz. From there, he slogged through many five-game sets, eliminating Gahtzu, Zaid “Spark” Ali, and bobby big ballz. In addition, Hungrybox beat iBDW 3-1 before losing their second set.

As the sixth seed, bobby big ballz had to overcome many difficult opponents on his path to Winners Finals. He beat Ben Strandmark 2-1 and Spark 2-0 en route to winners side of top 8. There, bobby big ballz earned his most impressive win to date, beating Melee’s best offline player, Hungrybox, 3-1. Ultimately, bobby big ballz placed 3rd at Frame Perfect Series 2: Online Melee Singles after losing to iBDW and Hungrybox.
